Sarah co-founded Independent Community Living in 2012, driven by the belief that people with disabilities have the right to be contributing members to our community while living as independently as possible. She has spent most of her twenty-plus years in Midland providing in-home support to people with disabilities. She is a graduate of Delta College and earned a management certificate in nonprofit best practices from Saginaw Valley State University.
Marlene coordinates and monitors medical care for participants. She was previously an employee of the Midland Public Schools, and continues to make a difference in the lives of those she supports with caring and compassion. She has been assisting individuals with developmental disabilities for more than 35 years. A native of Detroit, Marlene moved to Midland in 1980.
Max coordinates and monitors medical care for participants. He is a trained nursing assistant and served as a caregiver for more than 20 years, living his passion for helping people with special needs lead meaningful lives and reach their potential. He is a resident of Bay City and an avid volunteer in his community.
Kristin helps ensure that participants get the care they need by coordinating schedules for more than 100 staff. She has a long career of helping people – from working at her mother’s daycare, to becoming a certified nursing assistant in a nursing home, to working in a facility for people with brain and spinal cord injuries.
Prior to joining Independent Community Living, Jenny gained extensive experience in the mental health field, including 27 years of case management work with Community Mental Health agencies in Michigan.
A native of Midland, Kelly originally pursued a career in cosmetology before changing course to study social work. She has been with Independent Community Living since 2014, and is driven by a love of her job and the people she supports.
Josh has been an advocate for people with disabilities for over a decade. He has worked previously as a Direct Support Coordinator, Program Assistant, Direct Support Professional, and Payee. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Health Services from Western Michigan University.
Tanya has a background in business and retail management dating back more than 25 years. She has a bachelor’s degree in business management and accounting from Saginaw Valley State University. She recently moved back to the Midland area after some time downstate.
Jeremy spent 7 years in restaurant management before he began working with individuals with disabilities. He has worked in the field of advocacy for 9 years now, serving as a staffing coordinator for 2 years. he helped schedule staff and supervised all training for homes. Jeremy also worked as a support broker for 4 years.
Crystal Acker has worked in the Medical field for 14 years. She is currently pursuing an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science-Nursing at Delta College. She is the Payroll/Billing Coordinator at Independent Community Living. Crystal’s hard work ethic as well as her empathy and dedication to providing quality care also benefit many of the participants that we support. She has been with Independent Community Living since 2015.
Angela Tomczak has worked in the Medical field for 15 years. She has worked with Dementia patients, was a Home Hospice Care Provider and a Certified Nurse’s Aide. Her greatest attributes are her compassion, empathy and devotion to helping people. She has been with Independent Community Living since 2016 and currently trains caregivers in the field to provide the highest quality of service to the participants we support.
